Amsterdam has the oldest zoo in the Netherlands, founded in 1838. 700 species of animals provide a magnificent overview of the entire animal kingdom. Our favorite thing is the real Amsterdam canal in the aquarium section!
The Hortus Botanicus is one of the oldest botanic gardens in the world. There are more than 4,000 plant species growing in the garden and greenhouses. A nice cafe is on hand in case you get hungry! We love the Butterfly Greenhouse.
This wonderful cafe is located in the heart of the Vondelpark. The Melkhuis (milk house) has a large kid's playground where your kids can meet up with the locals. Also, the enclosed play area means you can have a glass of wine and your kids can not escape!
Science center NEMO is a great day out for visitors of all ages. NEMO has five floors packed with exciting thing to do and discover. The science gets more advanced as you make it upstairs, and then you can sit outside on the roof overlooking the city. This is a great experience all round!
"The Amsterdam" was a 18th century cargo ship from the Dutch East India Company, but it was wrecked in a storm on the English Channel in January of 1749. This is a replica of the ship, but still wonderful fun for the young and old.
Do a bit of climbing in the trees in the Amsterdam Forest. This climbing park is kid & adult friendly. It's open Wednesdays and weekends from around noon. All the gear and safety lessons are part of the experience.
