Dutch Cuisine Discovery Tour
In the 1600's the Dutch poet Jacob Westerbaen said "There is no better sauce than hunger." Our culinary tour is always a favorite with our guides and our guests!
We ride to various markets, park our bikes, and the guide accompanies you through a maze of Amsterdam's many food stalls. We explain how local delicacies are made and advise on items that you might enjoy. Back on the bikes, we visit some secret eateries that are off the map so that you get to experience the sounds and smell of Amsterdam's best dining experiences. Tip: Good food doesn't have to be expensive in Amsterdam!
Try the wonderful Dutch cheeses, traditional fish cakes, spicy Surinamese Roti and beef curry. An Indonesian lumpia or maybe a Moroccan lamb with couscous. Amsterdam is made up of 40% of people who are non-Dutch, so the options are legion. Of course, no food tour of Amsterdam would be complete without the standard local favorites, raw herring or stroopwafels.
By the 1640's there were over 50 sugar refineries in Amsterdam. To this day bakeries making sweets from multiple nations flourish in Amsterdam, and we also stop at some of the best for those who have a sweet tooth. We also discuss (and try) traditional drinks like Jenever, Dutch beer, and exotic teas. We specifically cater this tour to your taste buds. If there is something special you desire, please ask! Your guide on this tour is an ex-chef with ten years experience spanning three countries. Food and drinks are not included in the price of the tour.
Private tours are available 7 days a week. We are often fully booked, so an advanced reservation and a deposit are preferred.
All our private tours are on high quality Electra Townie Bikes.
"It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them." - Ernest Hemingway
